EMPOWERMENT

Our goal is to empower the poorest and most vulnerable communities to build their own homes, schools and shared facilities in a way that is sustainable by using what they have to hand.

NATURAL

A cornerstone of the Mûgezi approach is to reinvigorate local traditional building techniques often lost to the influence of foreign cultures; methods best suited to the local environment and climate.

TRAINING

Establishing courses in basic building techniques for community members and apprenticeship programs; creating a body of skilled people who can build effectively themselves and train others.

SUSTAINABILITY

Natural and human resources are in abundance; learning how to harness this amazing potential without submitting to commercial pressure and big investment in infrastructure is a trigger crucial for ordinary people to enable them prosper.

REPURPOSING

Plastic bottles, rice sacks, old tyres and shipping containers are a few examples of waste that can be used to construct buildings that are beautiful, useful & affordable. Wise use of waste can enable people to build themselves a home without creating a mountain of debt; key to facilitating sustainable development.

APPRENTICESHIPS

Enabling individuals to build for themselves, create businesses to build for others and to give away what they have learned, are key elements to how Mûgezi operates. Developing skills in communities so they are independent of the usual commercial constraints.
